Realms of Legacy
A Science Fantasy Tabletop Roleplaying Game
"Welcome to the Asteral System. The major civilizations of Gaia have recently discovered how to harness the powerful energies of plutheryte, a rare ore found in meteorites and deep within the realms themselves. Over the course of a century plutheryte has been used to allow naval ships the ability to fly across the skies and even beyond Gaia’s atmosphere into the veil of the universe. Since then, some adventurers have dived deep into the veil visiting the other realms or even braving into the outerveil, beyond the Asteral System’s borders."
What is Realms of Legacy?
Realms of Legacy (or RoL for short) is a space fantasy role-playing game for a group of friends to delve into.
The recommended number of players to play Realms of Legacy is 4-6, with 1 being elected the Game Master and the others building unique Player Characters.
It's a build-a-class game that allows you to play your character in unique ways. You start with a base Class and Specialty to become the foundation of your character’s playstyle. From there you can customize your character with a variety of talents and skills to make them truly unique. Two Guardians can play vastly different based on the talents they pick.
How Does it Play?
In Realms of Legacy, players can immerse themselves in four distinct activities, all centered around rolling a pool of six-sided and eight-sided dice. Success in these activities is typically determined by rolling a 6 or higher on at least one die.
Freeform Roleplay: This is the activity that players will take part in when not engaged in any other activity. Time progresses fluidly, dictated by the players' actions and intentions. Whether resolving a conflict, engaging in dialogue, or exploring a scene, this mode emphasizes character-driven storytelling and environmental interaction.
Tactical Combat: In this intense activity, players find themselves in precarious, often violent situations, requiring strategic thinking and cooperation to prevail. Time is broken down into 6-second intervals, spotlighting the significance of every move and decision. Success hinges on careful planning and the ability to work as a cohesive unit.
Realm Exploration: As players venture into unknown or perilous territories, they must rely on their preparation and survival skills to navigate the challenges ahead. This activity highlights the sense of adventure and discovery, as players uncover the mysteries and wonders of Gaia and the realms beyond.
Veilstrider Conflict: Here, players take control of massive, magitech ships known as veilstriders, engaging in high-stakes encounters with enemy vessels or gargantuan entities. Given the dynamic and ever-shifting nature of aerial combat, players must focus on teamwork and strategic maneuvering to maintain advantageous positioning and secure victory.
The Setting
A little over a century ago, the nations of Gaia had unlocked the secret of travel beyond their realm. Through the guidance of otherworldly beings known as Armorai, they constructed the first Veilstriders, sea-faring ships repurposed to fly amongst the Veilirium gases between realms powered by enigmatic plutheryte. An arms race between the nations caused extensive mining of Gaia’s plutheryte which created a great calamity known as the Fracture, which permanently corrupted and twisted the land of Gaia. This calamity caused the major nations to come to an agreement, known as the Plutherpact, to mine plutheryte no longer from Gaia to prevent anymore instability of the realm.
With the sudden drop in production, plutheryte became a coveted resource among the nations. This created the first Veildivers, groups of adventurers who traverse the Veil to find artifacts, plutheryte, and other rare goods across the other realms and bring them back to Gaia. Some Veildivers even traverse beyond the boundaries of the Asteral System into the mysterious Outerveil. But the Veil is a dangerous place filled with veilfaring marauders, blood-thirsty demons, corrupting virophage, and the ancient Eternals of the Void.

FAQ
Who are you?
I'm Nick, or Mr Universe as most know me online, and I've been playing and running tabletop games in the past decade. I've been working on this game for a couple of years now with some friends and wanted to share it with everyone!
Why did you create Realms of Legacy?
I wanted to create a space fantasy game with a good mix of crunchy, tactical combat, to-the-point exploration, and engaging space ship combat! I also wanted a system where you had a lot of freedom in character customization, kept the players engaged outside of their turns in tactical combat, and had rolls that were quick to interpret by everyone once they were rolled.
Do I need to pay to play Realms of Legacy?
Nope! Currently, all the rules, player options, and Game Master options are available for free as I playtest and refine the rules and content.
What about after the game releases?
Once the playtests are concluded and the full game releases, there will be a community version of the Core Rulebook available to download that will include all the core rules, some of the player options, and all the tools and guidelines for a GM to make and run a campaign.
Will there a physical book?
Yes! There are plans to release the game on DriveThruRPG as a Print on Demand product once the game is fully finished.
What inspired you to make Realms of Legacy?
